A holiday weekend was approaching and Ian decided it would be the perfect time to plan a joint family getaway. I was placed in charge of finding the perfect location. I choose southern California for its beautiful weather and fun activities. I knew the place had to be family friendly as we had 2 boys and 2 girls all under the age of 8. The kids wanted fun, the moms wanted relaxing and the dads wanted great experiences. Knowing this i choose The Hotel Del on Coronado island. A luxury resort on a small island off the coast of San Diego. I worked with Celebrity Hideways concierges to book the perfect oceanview rooms. I worked with the amazing concierges at the Hotel Del to plan the perfect itinerary.
At check in the kids received the coolest bags that were to lead them on a special scavenger hunt around the resort. I learned about the world class spa and Ian couldn’t wait to get on the family bikes to tour the island.
Our room was an oceanview suite. Ian and I sometimes imagine that all will work out and we will end up on the trip sleeping in bed one together. Most of the time the kids capture us and we end up all together or separated with a little one.
Our first day was spent enjoying the pool and beach. Mia and Penna have been working so hard at their swim lessons to get ready for pool season. Mia is on her own cannon-balling into the pool and little Penna is still needing some assistance. Ian loves holding her in the pool and reinforcing her lessons.
After hours of swimming and digging in the sand we got ready for dinner. I worked with the concierge to plan our night. We started with a gourmet dinner at their restaurant on site, 1500 Ocean . My concierge at Celebrity Hideways helped aggrandize the experience by putting us in a private room by the wine cellar. We ate the freshest seafood dishes while the kids enjoyed pastas and kids filet mignons. After dinner we walked a short trip to the beach to enjoy a private S mores roast with the kids and our friends. After the roast the kids ran on the beach in the dark and we enjoyed the fire and a bottle of champagne. We enjoyed conversations about our crazy kids and how different life is with them!
The next day was a little cloudy in the morning so after our epicurean buffet breakfast at the resorts Sheerwater Restaurant we decided to head to La Jolla only 20 minutes north to see the Seals and Sea Lions off the cliffs. We walked through the enchanting town and climbed the rocks to get up close to the beautiful creatures.
We were so exhausted after this trek that we headed back to the hotel for the perfect family vacation nap. I woke up a little early to sneak off to the Spa at the hotel. It was the perfect mommy moment. Alone having a massage, enjoying the perfect cup of tea while my other mommy friend got her hair done at the salon. We were refreshed and ready for a night around the resort. We headed back and got ready for a grownup night at the Hotel Del. We packed the kids up and sent them to the Kidtopia Camp on site at the resort. They had a night planned that included dinner, beach treks and oceanography. We ventured around the resort. We started with martinis at the hotel bar. We went to ENO Artisan Pizzeria and Wine for wine and pizza of course! We enjoyed the live music and Ian and I even got to dance a little without a child between us. By 930 we were done (we are those parents) and we headed back to get the kids. They were having so much fun! Dressed in costumes and hugging their caretakers goodbye they skipped back to the rooms. As soon as their heads hit the pillow they were out like a light. It was the perfect ending to a magical family trip!
