Taking Mia to summer camp turned into one big East Coast adventure for us girls. The camp suggested we fly into Boston and drive her to her camp in New Hampshire. This drive would take up to 2 hours. After a long flight, I didn’t think a long drive sounded like a good idea so I pulled up a map of the East Coast and started mapping out an adventure that was kid friendly!
Mia has always been interested in the world of Witches and after reading “What was the Salem Witch Trials” she had a fascination with the history of Salem. We decided this would be a perfect first stop since it was only 40 min from the Boston Airport. We planned 2 nights there before we hit the road to take Mia to camp. After our emotional goodbye to Mia we planned the rest of our trip! Penna requested a beach day so we decided the Beaches of Maine would be a perfect stop. I definitely wanted a day in New York so we mapped our way down the coast planning about 2 hours with each drive.
Hotel- The Merchant Hotel – a 1700 Merchant House that was once the location of the town Sherif during the Salem With Trails and is believed to be haunted.
Tour- We took a Salem walking tour focusing on Ghost Stories! It was perfect for the kids and gave great details about the Witch trails
Shop- We loved stopping in the spiritual shops and seeing all they had to offer
Museums- We loved the Salem Witch Trails Museum. It was more like a show and the kids were definitely entertained.
Walk the the Cemetery before Dark- the Cemetery is locked at dark but the kids loved being there right before the sun went down.
New Hampshire was where Mia went to summer camp! We had a quick drop off and goodbye during our East Coast Trip. During the hours we drove through New Hampshire we only saw small towns and woods. Then we were off we went to Maine.
York Harbor, Maine
Penna and I choose a beach side town in Maine that was closest to New Hampshire on our East Coast Road Trip. York Harbor was the perfection location. Beautiful old buildings and a perfect classic inn off the cliffs for us to stay in. We of course enjoyed a Lobster (which Penna decided she was going to be a vegetarian after) For our morning we visited a lighthouse, played on the beach and tried a beach side lobster roll!
We made a quick stop to visit friends in Westport, Connecticut
Then we were off to New York City!
New York City, New York
Our next stop on our East Coast Road Trip was New York City!
Hotel- Knickerbocker off Time Square- I choose this hotel because with a 6 year old it was easier to be close to all the fun we would be having during the day with minimal walking or traffic
Lunch- The Plaza Hotel Eloise Tea Party- It was incredibly pricey and definitely a once in a lifetime type tea party.
Shopping- F.A.O Shawartz
Dinner- Stardust Diner, Penna loved singing along with all the Broadway Potentials
Show- Frozen on Broadway- It was a perfect way to end the evening. We loved the show!
