The Ziering girls have loved watching the Olympics. The Team USA spirit has been high in our household. Our favorite games have been swimming and gymnastics. The girls woke up early every morning and wanted to see what the gymnastics girls team did the night before. They have spent their mornings trying to recreate what Simone Biles did for her floor routine. They want any box of cereal that has her on the cover. I decided to celebrate the great achievements by Team USA by having the Ziering girls host their own Olympic playdate!
We started our Olympic playdate by creating Olympic Batons using toilet paper rolls. Later we would use them for relay races to keep the kids busy! We painted them with red, white and blue paint and allowed them to dry while starting our own Olympic Games.
The Ziering Girls and their friends decided to compete in the gymnastics games just like their new hero, Simone Biles. They walked their balance beams. They flipped on their parallel bars, which we made out of dried bamboo and they tumbled on their mats. They even used ribbons for their final ribbon dance!
To get a little wet and wild we added our own game to the Olympic playdate. The water balloon toss. The kids loved it. They squeezed water balloons all over themselves and giggled away!
My favorite craft blogger came to give the moms a special treat while the kids played. She helped us make our own Greek Goddess Crowns in honor of the Olympics. You can check out how to make these on her site http://doityourfreakingself.com
Ian ultimately won the games! The kids decided he deserved the gold metal for having the most fun in the water balloon fight! As you can see he was really excited. We hope our family fun playdate has inspired you to get creative with your friends and throw a team spirited playdate full of lots of fun and crafts!
