South Africa, that spot on the map that is pretty low down and seems so far away. That place where you have to get lots of extra vaccines that you don’t even question and take some strange pills that make you sick ahead of time. That place that they talk about on the news… When Ian approached me about an upcoming opportunity for us to go to South Africa on Safari, again my first response was, “I’m good, I will stay home with the babies.” He quickly reminded me again that we no longer have babies and that I was getting on that flight. He also offered to take the kids. Upon researching the trip, I found out that the quickest way to get there was 32 hours of travel. We had to get 3 vaccines that would most likely make us sick and that is was a 10 hour time difference. The idea of taking a 4 and 6 year old to a magical land that they would experience lions and giraffes in the wild was enticing… then I remembered they were 4 and 6. This amazing trip that cost almost 5k a seat to fly there, they wouldn’t even remember. Their memories would be stronger of their moments of Grandma and Grandpa flying in for the week to spoil them while we were away. So from all these reasons, my kids were quickly uninvited by me ! My husband was a little shocked but excited to be alone in the wild.
We stayed in Sun City, South Africa at the Palace Resort. With 7 days away, we enjoyed about 4 of those not traveling. Here is a peek at our amazing adventure in Africa! ( and if you are wondering, Yes.. I think everyone needs to go some time in their life! )
On the Safari we were able to see all the amazing wild creatures of Africa. From Lions to Giraffes, it was truly magical. Seeing all the animals in their nature environment- Not fed by man, chasing each other to live is truly an amazing and humbling experience.
Experiencing these beautiful creatures, face to face was truly on of the most special moments I have ever had. You could feel the wisdom and elegance of these amazing animals, that they say, will never forget you.
If you have ever had the need to cuddle with a baby Lion, look no further. The wild cat preserve has it all. Petting lions and cuddling cubs. All those dreams can be fulfilled.
